A worker suffered life changing injuries when he was struck by a telehandler whilst operating a ride-on pallet truck. The worker was carrying out stock movement prior to the accident. The company JMP Wilcox was fined £300,000 and ordered to pay costs of £7732.
The investigation by the HSE revealed that:
- there was no effective separation of pedestrians and vehicles,
- inadequate risk assessments relating to workplace transport safety,
- failure to implement simple, industry standard safety measures to prevent collisions.
