Supplier Fined – Workplace Transport Safety

Sep 4, 2025

A wholesale supplier to supermarkets, Bestway Northern, has been fined £1 million and costs of £11,950, following a fatal accident where a worker acting as a banksman for a delivery, was fatally crushed during a routine delivery. The investigation revealed that the company had failed to:

  • carry out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for workplace transport activities,
  • lacked a safe system of work for addressing deliveries and unloading procedures,
  • provide adequate training and banksman, particularly in high risk environments.
